Weekly Devotional November 2, 2016: Coming Just As We Are

church-pew-reshaped“Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall rest for your souls.”  (Matthew 11:29).  “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2).

Hymn writer Charlotte Elliot said it in words that still ring with all the comfort and expectation that a human heart will ever need. When we finally come to the place — in all our struggles and decisions — where we turn away from the world and from self for the solutions — and turn only to Him — we find He truly is everything we need.

Just As I Am

Just as I am, without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidd’st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need in Thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am; Thy love unknown
Has broken every barrier down.
Now to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
